For commemoration of the 25th anniversary of conclusion of Sino-Japanese treaty on peace and friendship, and the 30th anniversary of the opening of Fuji Art Museum, Zhou Yunhua Family’s Paper-cutting Exhibition was opened on April 4th at Fuji Museum in Japan. Mr. Zhou Yunhua, a Member of Chinese Artists Association, is a well-known painter, calligrapher and paper-cutting artisan in China. Counsellor Ms. Mao Yaping, the wife of Chinese ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Japan, together with Mr. Kado Jiko the director of Fuji Art Museum, cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony. Mr. Zhou Yunhua and his son Zhou Bing were also invited there on behalf of their Zhou Family. Soka Gakkai President Daisaku Ikeda also presented a basket of flowers for the exhibition as congratulation. |
Zhou Family’s paper-cuts have three main series as black, red and blue. The black series is mainly of the Forbidden City and the Jiangnan local residences, ancient houses and gardens. The red series is of a more joyful theme, as blossoms and flowers. The blue series is about Chinese ancient maids, Kwan-yin and the creation of blue calico style likeness. The works shown at this exhibition consist mostly of the Forbidden City Series. All their artworks are exquisitely and delicately carved, to suit both refined and popular tastes. They have developed the traditional cutting skills and also absorbed the techniques of print and Chinese painting. Delicate and smooth cutting skills enable the artwork to flow with lively rhythm and strong sense of three-dimensional decorative beauty of high values. As Mr. Mr. Kado Jiko praised in his address at the opening, Zhou’s paper-cuts depict the majestic and most lofty power of Forbidden City incisively and vividly, by contrast use of the two colors---black and white. Fuji Art Museum lies at the foot of Mount Fuji . The beginning of April in Japan is exactly the season of cherry blossoms! Visitors are deeply attracted by the exhibition, full of Chinese traditional characteristics. For this time, Zhou Yunhua Family’s Paper-cutting Exhibition shown in Japan gained much support from Ms. Shulei Ryu, President of Japanese GABO Company, who is also the widow of Japanese famous painter M.Miyata. Besides hers, Fuji Art museum and Mr. Wang Chuanfeng, the Chinese painter residing in Japan, are also kind enough to give their great aids. The exhibition will be closed on April 13th. |
